The history of La Aparecida

At the time when the Moors ruled Spain and persecuted the Catholic religion , one possessed of a canvas with the image of Ntra. Mrs. Maria Sma., Afraid he would take it down , family hid underground in a bancal Where there was no danger.

Much later, the 13 as maypole as 1736 a farmer in the neighborhood Los Esparragales named Jaime Trigueros, plowing their lands in a patch called Olivar Viejo, saw the iroxen refused to continue; Watching more closely he saw that among the irons of the plow was an oil-painted canvas. The labrador picked it up without knowing what it was, washed it in a pot of water that was there, and let it dry in its humble tent (now a popular chapel), and when it was getting dark at night, he realized that a glow illuminating the canvas and was approaching him, he saw that showed the image of the Virgin Mary with Child in her arms and breastfeeding.

Jaime communicated the finding to his wife and neighbors, who came from then on to see her and pray her with assiduity. The marriage was made known to the bishopric of Orihuela (then Bishop: Josef D. Flores Ossorio), which decided to build a chapel in the village of Raiguero, natural village of Jayme. The people of the town thought that it was to be done in the center, and thus among the discussions it was agreed that the Canvas of the Virgin would be mounted on a donkey and that the hermitage would be raised wherever the animal was. And the donkey headed towards that old neighborhood known as Los Esparragales, which from that moment changed its name to La Aparecida.
