The History Of San Bartolomé

Many years ago, when the town was totally rural, and there was scarcely any contact with the capital, it happened that a humble shepherd went with his flock "Regajo el Santo", as the river passed, at the beginning of the top of the hill, he stopped at To rest on the side of a white stone, under the blinding sun, hot, surrounded by dry fields, dressed in gold, had an appearance. There in front of him, he began to see the image of St. Bartholomew, our Patron. The shepherd was exhausted, not knowing whether it was true what his eyes saw, or whether it was a mirage produced by the heat.

He began to speak to him and saw that it was reality, he was in front of his Patron, who told him to build a hermitage next to the white stone, where the pastor had stopped to rest. Once St. Bartholomew had told him his wish disappeared.

Surprised that his Patron had chosen him to tell him his wish, he ran to tell the townspeople. And they built the hermitage.

But it was not built where the Saint said but on the other side of the river, so one day it collapsed. When it was rebuilt, the people of the town made a ditch so that when it rained the water would slip through it. From then until a few years ago, when there was drought or scarce water, the people of the town went to the hermitage and cleaned the ditch, and a few days later it rained.

From then until now, every year, the last days of August we celebrate a feast in honor of our Patron.
